Bluesky’s Mobile Usage Falls as the Platform Broadens Focus
Bluesky’s mobile user base has continued to contract despite the decentralized social network adding registered accounts, according to data from digital intelligence provider Similarweb.
The Bluesky mobile app recorded 10.4 million monthly active users worldwide in June 2026, down 27.2% from a year earlier. Mobile daily active users also declined, falling 25.6% year over year in July to approximately 3 million.
The figures point to a significant reduction in activity since Bluesky benefited from an influx of users following the 2024 U.S. elections and an associated migration away from Elon Musk’s X. Similarweb estimates that Bluesky’s quarterly average monthly active users reached about 22.1 million in the fourth quarter of 2024, compared with 10.7 million in the second quarter of 2026 – a decline of roughly 52%.
Bluesky does not publicly disclose monthly or daily active-user figures, although its own statistics show nearly 46 million registered users. The gap between registrations and active usage suggests that a substantial proportion of accounts are not regularly using the mobile application.
Those who remain active appear relatively engaged. Similarweb put Bluesky’s mobile stickiness rate – the ratio of daily to monthly active users – at about 29% in June, broadly comparable with Meta’s Threads.
The company is also increasingly positioning itself around AT Protocol, the underlying technology that allows independent social applications and communities to operate within the same decentralized ecosystem. Projects including BlackSky, Eurosky and video-focused Skylight are developing within that environment.
Under CEO Toni Schneider, Bluesky has also expanded beyond its core social app. The company has introduced Attie, an AI-powered research tool, and is working on support for private data that could enable applications beyond Bluesky’s primarily public-facing social model.
