Chapter 2 Dating Acquires Its Technology Platform M14

Chapter 2 Dating Ltd – the firm behind niche platforms such as Soberlove, Widows Fire and the titular Chapter 2 app – has formally acquired the M14 white-label dating and social app platform that it had been using since launching in 2022. The move positions Chapter 2 to gain greater autonomy over its technology and product strategy, effectively giving the company full control over the baseline its apps were built around.

Originally introduced in 2017 by M14 Industries founder John Kershaw – who presented the platform on BBC’s Dragons’ Den – the underlying system serves not just websites but also full-fledged mobile apps. In 2022, Steve Pammenter, co-founder of Venntro Media Group and an established figure in the white-label dating industry, acquired the plat from Kershaw – and now it’s in the hands of Chapter 2.

Nicky Wake, founder of Chapter 2, explained that gaining ownership of the platform was “a natural step forward”, enabling improved profitability, expanded feature development, and enhanced flexibility in membership structures. Meanwhile, Pammenter welcomes the timing, allowing him to redirect his focus toward his other ventures, including the longstanding LGBTQ+ brand Gaydar and growing content firm Highlife Media. He also affirmed that GaydarGirls will remain a strategic partner on the M14 platform.

The greater flexbility and control this offers to Chapter 2 Dating Ltd could be an important part of the company’s growth, giving them far more options when it comes to both improving their existing apps and putting together new ones. With no third-party white-label to answer to and the potential to serve as a white label company for other app creators, this move could have a major impact on the company’s future projects.
