Date Drop Plans Launch At The University of Washington

Date Drop, a matchmaking platform that’s gaining traction on college campuses across the U.S., is set to launch at the University of Washington (UW) this spring. Developed by Stanford graduate student Henry Weng, who coded the site in just three weeks, Date Drop aims to combat “swiping fatigue” and foster deeper, more authentic connections in an era dominated by superficial dating apps.

Unlike Tinder or Hinge, where users quickly judge profiles in seconds, Date Drop emphasizes thoughtful compatibility. Students verify their enrollment with a university email and complete an in-depth questionnaire covering core values, lifestyle preferences, emotional styles, partnership expectations, attraction factors, and views on civics and ethics. Responses are rated on a 1-7 scale, supplemented by an AI-powered section where users answer open-ended questions – via text or voice recording – tailored to their previous replies. This builds a holistic profile focused on who they are and what they’re seeking in a partner.

Matches are delivered weekly via email on the same day and time, typically with one thoughtful pairing per user who opts in. Each includes the match’s name and email, a compatibility assessment, and suggested date ideas. The limited frequency – one person per week – encourages users to invest time in getting to know someone rather than juggling multiple superficial interactions.

Community features enhance the experience: friends can gather to receive their “drops” together, creating shared excitement. A points system lets users “Play Cupid” by nominating potential pairs, boosting their odds and climbing a leaderboard. The “Shoot your shot” option allows anonymous mutual interest declarations for instant matches.
