Facebook Dating Blocks Browser Access, Forces App Install

A growing number of users of Facebook Dating say that the feature no longer works when accessed through mobile web browsers, effectively forcing them to install the full Facebook app if they want to continue swiping. The shift appears to have occurred quietly over the last few days, pushing users to fully transition into using the app rather than accessing the platform through their mobile browsers to avoid installation.

For years, Facebook Dating’s official guidelines have stated the service is available only via the mobile app – but many users reported that it had remained accessible via browser as a de facto option. Now, multiple reports on platforms such as Reddit claim that this browser workaround has been shut down, with the Dating section either refusing to load or prompting users to download the app instead.

Speculation is swirling over whether this is a deliberate policy shift, a technical enforcement of existing rules, or a broader push by Meta to move users back into its native apps. Other users described the move as another step by Meta toward greater data collection and device access, or just an effort to put more users into tiehr ecoystem.

Either way, this single small change could actually be significant, given that Facebook Dating has been quietly but massively successful at over 21.5 million daily users. If users accept the installation, then it could show overall install numbers climbing higher and potentially give Meta a better set of data to use for furthering the platform – but if users aren’t willing, then it’s possible that the active user count could shrink slightly, especially for users who were deliberately avoiding installing the app for any particular reason.
