49% of Single Gen Z Singaporeans Are Open to Government-Backed Matchmaking

Nearly half (49%) of single Gen Z Singaporeans would be likely to use FirstDate, Singapore’s government-backed matchmaking pilot, if eligible, compared with 28% of Millennials, according to a new YouGov survey. Overall, 31% of respondents said they were interested in using the service.

The research also found that 44% of Singaporeans support introducing similar government-backed matchmaking services, rising to 56% among Gen Z. When asked which features would encourage them to use such services, 42% selected verified identities, followed by matching based on shared values, interests and lifestyles (35%) and strong privacy protections (26%).

The survey also explored why younger Singaporeans are remaining single. Half of single respondents (50%) cited independence, while 42% said they had yet to find a compatible partner. Among single Gen Z respondents, 54% said they had difficulty finding a compatible partner. Career ambitions and financial stability were also important factors, with 57% of Gen Z respondents citing these as reasons why more young adults remain unmarried.

FirstDate has been expanding its eligibility, with the pilot recently opening to singles aged 21 to 45. The YouGov findings suggest younger adults are particularly receptive to government-supported matchmaking, with verified identities and compatibility among their leading priorities.

The survey was conducted in October 2026 among 1,112 Singaporean adults aged 18 and over.
