Fourplay Social Rebrands to PlotTwist, Keeps Double Date Focus
Earlier this week, Fourplay Social officially announced that it has changed its name to PlotTwist, marking a rebranding aimed at better aligning with how its users are engaging with the product. Founded by Danielle Dietzek and Julie Griggs, the platform allows single people to team up with a friend and match with other pairs, with the aim of facilitating double dates and reducing the pressure often experienced in conventional dating apps.
The company says the name-change is driven by feedback from its community and by observing a shift in what users are seeking. According to the site’s FAQ section, “After listening to our users, being our users, and keeping a pulse on the culture of singlehood, we realized that we had outgrown dating, and our name should reflect that”. The new name – PlotTwist – is intended to capture the unexpected outcomes users report: new friendships, funny stories, chance romances.
PlotTwist keeps the same core mechanics: single friends create a joint profile and are matched with other pairs of single friends. These pairs can then arrange group outings rather than traditional one-on-one first dates. The founders believe this model offers a more social, less transactional alternative.
Currently, the app is available on iOS in selected U.S. markets, including New York City and Boston. Android users can join a waitlist to be notified when publication in the Google Play Store occurs.
This rebrand is likely an attempt to avoid becoming “just” a double dating app, with more focus on the spontaneous experiences that can come from two groups of two friends – whether that’s romantic connections or just finding new people to hang out with.
