Gleeden Survey: Shifting Attitudes Toward Infidelity in Urban India

Gleeden, an extramarital dating platform with a growing presence in India, has released findings from a new nationwide survey examining changing relationship dynamics among GenX, Millennials, and GenZ. Conducted by IPSOS, the study coincides with Gleeden’s recent milestone of reaching 3 million users in India.

Surveying over 1,500 adults across major tier-1 and tier-2 cities, the research focused on evolving perspectives around love, marriage, and infidelity. Key findings point to increasing emotional dissatisfaction in relationships, with 51% of participants reporting a lack of emotional connection with their partners despite being generally happy or sexually fulfilled. This was particularly pronounced among GenX respondents, 55% of whom cited emotional disconnect as a central issue.

Work-life imbalance emerged as a major contributor to infidelity, with 33% of participants citing it as a trigger – millennials leading this trend at 42%. Notably, over half of the GenX cohort (54%) admitted to frequently thinking about exploring relationships outside their existing commitments.

The study also explored attitudes toward monogamy and open relationships. Overall, 61% of participants said humans are not naturally monogamous, with men and women expressing nearly identical views. Meanwhile, 41% were open to the idea of their partner suggesting an open relationship, and 35% claimed to already be in one.

Social media was identified as a key enabler of extramarital interaction, with 68% stating it provides more opportunities for infidelity and 64% admitting to flirting online despite being in relationships.

The survey suggests a growing willingness among urban Indians to question traditional relationship structures and embrace more fluid approaches to emotional and physical connection – something that is only made more likely given that the app saw a 270% increase in users over the course of 2024.
