Greed Dating Implements AI Nudity Detection to Enhance User Safety

Greed Dating has recently integrated AI-powered nudity detection to address safety concerns and comply with the upcoming UK Online Safety Act. The feature, which blocks explicit content in both profile uploads and live chat, was implemented in just a few hours using open-source libraries and guidance from ChatGPT – and were added not long after the platform’s other recent safety overhauls focused on preventing scam attempts.

The new system automatically flags and blocks nudity in profile pictures and blurs explicit images sent in chats, allowing recipients to choose whether to view them. This proactive approach safeguards users from “cyberflashing”, a growing issue in digital interactions where one user sends sexually explicit selfies or similar content to an unsuspecting and unwilling recipient.

Regarding the changes, founder David Minns stated that running a dating platform – especially for niche dating – is about “creating spaces where users feel understood and valued”. He added that AI tools provide a way to “ensure those spaces are not only welcoming but also safe. It’s about redefining what people expect from online dating apps.”

The technology was built using a combination of PHP, Python, and free image analysis tools. By leveraging AI’s capabilities, Minns avoided the lengthy development processes traditionally required for such features. Looking ahead, Minns plans to implement additional features, including age detection for profiles and even stronger scammer identification systems, further enhancing user protection. These developments aim to create a secure environment while maintaining the app’s user-friendly experience, using AI to keep the implementation as quick and non-disruptive as possible.
