Grindr Continues “Daddy Lessons” Queer History Series

Since its launch, Grindr’s “Daddy Lessons” has offered an ongoing series of brief, candid lessons in queer history, narrated by individuals with lived experiences. Originally introduced earlier this October, Daddy Lessons has provided bite-sized breakdowns of important moments in queer history, and has seen a surprising amount of success across its combined YouTube, Tiktok and Instagram release – much like the platform itself.

Developed partially by author Clayton Littlewood, the series was meant to spread knowledge of some older and less-well-known parts of queer history, from slang to concepts like the handkerchief code. Grindr’s project addresses the challenge of conveying queer history to new generations, particularly against rising restrictions on LGBTQ+ resources and literature in some regions of the world – as well as the lack of open queer communities or relevant accessible spaces.

While Daddy Lessons is currently only known to run until the end of the month, its success could see it continue as a semi-regular series. Not only has it gained decent traction across all three platforms, but it provides an important resource for both learning queer history and helping people better understand their sexualities – something that Clayton himself struggled with when he was younger, and used as motivation for the entire project.
