Grindr Releases 2025 Unwrapped Statistics

This week Grindr released its 2025 “Unwrapped” report – the fifth annual edition of the app’s year-in-review – offering a wide-ranging look at how its 15 million monthly users around the world have shaped queer dating culture over the past year.

The report mixes data and community votes (over 32,000 this year, triple last year’s), revealing notable shifts in identity, preference, and pop-culture sentiment. For instance, the UK emerged as the global leader for self-identified “fem tops,” while Ireland recorded the highest proportion of users listing themselves as “bears. The most searched tag globally was “Hung”.

Grindr even noted cultural ripple effects linked to real-world events: usage reportedly spiked by nearly seven per cent in cities on nights when Lady Gaga performed her Monster Ball tour – a sign of how entertainment and dating behaviours can intertwine in real time. The report includes a range of statistics on things like fashion trends and trends that users are leaving behind going into 2026, as well as in-depth details on the kinds of matches that were the most desirable.

While Unwrapped focuses on a range of Grindr user interests – some of which are entirely about media, celebrities and hobbies – it’s still clear that the app’s audience has a defined approach to dating. Given that Grindr is arguably the most successful gay dating app available at the moment, there’s a good chance that these trends extend beyond the app and into its target audience, with some of the trends having remained strong for at least a couple of years of Unwrappeds.
