Hily Valentine’s Day Update Encourages Singles to Embrace Flaws
Ahead of Valentine’s Day, dating app Hily has introduced a revamped compatibility feature called Icks&Clicks, aimed at helping singles move past minor “icks” and focus on deeper relationship potential. The update reflects a growing trend in dating, known as “stICKing,” where people pursue connections despite initial turn-offs that may not reflect true compatibility.
Dr. Marisa T. Cohen, relationship expert at Hily, explains the reasoning behind the feature: “People often get the ‘ick’ over trivial things like mirror selfies or photos with friends on dating profiles. While some ‘icks’ may signal deeper incompatibilities, many are simply superficial quirks that don’t reflect a person’s true character or potential as a partner. The Icks&Clicks feature encourages daters to look beyond these surface-level judgments and focus on meaningful compatibility.”
The new feature builds upon Hily’s existing compatibility quiz, which was first developed in 2020 by a clinical psychologist. The original test, which consists of 40 science-backed questions, assesses relationship orientation, personality traits, and lifestyle preferences to help users identify potential matches.
The updated Icks&Clicks feature offers a more interactive approach. The first seven questions help users define their personal “icks” (turn-offs) and “clicks” (traits they value in a partner). While swiping, users can now see their Icks&Clicks score with potential matches, offering a breakdown of shared likes and dislikes. Premium subscribers gain access to a full 40-question compatibility analysis for more in-depth insights.
While this is obviously a fun addition four users who just see it as an optional extra feature, it also has the added benefit of potentially making users more likely to find matches despite those initial flaws. If users are encouraged to both share and overlook imperfections on both sides of a match, the platform’s becomes much more effective at pairing up users.
