Hinge Introduces “Signals” Feature to Highlight Quality User Engagement

Hinge has rolled out a new feature called Signals, visible as a beating heart icon on certain user profiles and next to names in the inbox. The badge is designed to help users identify people who demonstrate consistent and thoughtful participation on the app.

According to Hinge, the Signals badge appears when a user’s recent activity reflects positive engagement habits. These include spending time exploring profiles before liking, sending personalized comments, messaging matches, and following through by confirming dates. The feature aims to give users a better sense of who is actively looking for meaningful connections rather than casual swiping or ghosting.

To earn the Signals badge, users must meet several baseline requirements:

  • A complete profile
  • Selfie verification
  • An account in good standing that follows community guidelines
  • Consistent app usage over time

In addition, users need to show a combination of thoughtful behaviors, such as looking before liking, sending messages, and confirming dates. The badge is not available for purchase and is reassessed regularly, meaning it can appear or disappear based on recent activity. The new feature comes at a time when many dating app users express frustration with low-effort interactions, ghosting, and fake profiles.

While it rewards positive behaviors, it does not guarantee compatibility or prevent all poor experiences. It simply serves as an additional signal of engagement quality. Hinge positions Signals as a tool to help users focus their attention on more promising matches, potentially improving the overall experience on the app.
