Irish Dating App ‘Ginger Zinger’ Launches for Redheads and Admirers
A novel dating app aimed at Ireland’s substantial redheaded population has just launched. Ginger Zinger is designed specifically for people with ginger hair and those attracted to them, offering a tailored matchmaking experience in case “swiping through hundreds of non-redheads” isn’t your vibe. Around 10% of Irish people reportedly have red hair, making the target demographics larger than it might initially appear.
Developed by niche-app specialist David Minns – responsible for Greed Dating and a number of other dating app projects – Ginger Zinger seeks to carve out its own space in the dating landscape. Minns said he saw a gap in the market for more quirky, community-focused platforms that were distinct from the “Tinders” of the world. The app allows users to self-identify as either a “redhead” or a “redhead admirer,” a streamlined approach to facilitating more relevant matches.
Unlike most swipe-based apps, Ginger Zinger takes a more direct route: users can browse profiles that include up to nine photos, location, personal interests, and a short bio—and contact someone they like immediately, without swiping. This approach emphasizes conversational possibility over chance. Recognizing Ireland’s linguistic heritage, the app is available not only in English, but also in both Irish (Gaeilge) and Scots Gaelic – acknowledging that both Ireland and Scotland have strong redhead populations and cultural connections.
Minns highlighted that although ginger individuals represent a relatively small community, there is notable appeal for admirers. By positioning redheads at the center of attention – rather than as a rare novelty – he argues that the app offers both inclusivity and visibility for users who have historically been underserved in the dating app ecosystem. The app is available through Greed as a sub-app, with its own dedicated profile options.
