Reddit Debuts AI-Driven Max Campaigns

Reddit has introduced a new AI-powered advertising format called Max campaigns, aimed at automating campaign setup and optimization while providing deeper insights into audience behaviour. The feature, announced in early January and currently available in beta to a limited number of advertisers, represents Reddit’s most significant push yet into automated performance advertising.

Max campaigns use artificial intelligence alongside Reddit’s proprietary data – referred to as Reddit Community Intelligence – to predict the value of each ad impression and adjust campaign elements in real time. This approach automates key functions such as audience targeting, creative selection, placement decisions, and budget allocation, potentially reducing manual workload for advertisers. Unlike some automated tools on other platforms, Reddit emphasises transparency, offering enhanced reporting features intended to reveal how campaigns are performing and why.

Central to this reporting is Top Audience Personas, a new insight feature unique to Max campaigns. Through AI clustering, this tool categorises users engaging with ads into identifiable groups – for example, “new parents” or “ambitious home cooks” – and provides data on what these segments are interested in and how they respond to campaigns. According to Reddit, this blend of campaign performance and platform conversation signals can help marketers better understand who is interacting with their ads and refine future strategies.

Early test results suggest tangible performance improvements. In alpha trials involving more than 600 advertisers, campaigns using the Max format reportedly achieved on average 17% lower cost per acquisition (CPA) and 27% more conversions compared with traditional campaign setups. One example highlighted involved Brooks Running, which saw a 37% reduction in cost per click (CPC) and a 27% increase in clicks without manual adjustments over a 21-day test period.
