Jigsaw Dating Completes Major Pivot to IRL Hybrid Service
Jigsaw Dating has fully transitioned from a traditional dating app to a hybrid offline/online platform focused on facilitating real-world connections. The company, which began with a puzzle-based matching system to encourage deeper interactions, now hosts over 200 singles events per month across more than 30 major US cities, making it the largest organizer of in-person dating events in the country.
The strategic shift was detailed at the Global Dating Insights 2026 conference in New York. CEO Alex Durrant and Head of Engineering Jack Hollins described the change as a response to widespread user fatigue with swipe-based apps, algorithmic matching, and screen-heavy experiences. Jigsaw’s internal research found that 97% of users do not want AI involved in their dating process, and 70% would feel betrayed if a match used AI for communication. The company uses AI internally for operational tasks but keeps it out of user-facing features.
Events serve as the core offering, with a range of formats designed to promote organic interactions. Dedicated hosts ensure a safe, verified environment, and the companion app supports pre-event discovery, post-event messaging, and follow-up date planning. Upcoming features will allow users to book curated venues directly through the platform.
Jigsaw leadership framed the pivot as addressing a broader industry problem: apps that optimize for engagement metrics rather than meaningful outcomes. The company maintains a small core team by leveraging technology for logistics while emphasizing real-life experiences as the primary path to connection.
As users report increasing disillusionment with purely app-based dating, services emphasizing real-world events and community building may gain traction. Jigsaw’s approach may be a very smart one, given changing tastes from a large portion of dating app users – and also marks a major transformation in the platform, given that in-person events used to simply be a small and fairly uncommon part of its overall presence.
