Match Group Partners With “Unbreaking Project” to Combat Romance Scams

Match Group, the parent company of major dating platforms such as Tinder, Hinge and OkCupid, has announced its involvement in a new initiative named the “Unbreaking Project”, aimed at strengthening efforts to address romance fraud and support those impacted by it. The campaign connects victims, law enforcement and platform operators in a structured effort to tackle one of the most emotionally damaging forms of online fraud.

The Unbreaking Project is being developed in partnership with victim advocate Kate Kleinert, the nonprofit Advocating Against Romance Scammers (AARS) and the Center for Combating Elder Financial Abuse (CCEFA). Central to the initiative are three core elements: free virtual training for U.S. law-enforcement agencies, distribution of what the group calls “Hug Kits” to survivors, and an awareness-raising campaign to help users spot warning signs of romance scams.

The launch of the Unbreaking Project comes amid heightened public and regulatory scrutiny of dating-app safety. A September 2025 letter from U.S. Senators Maggie Hassan and Marsha Blackburn to Match Group demanded detailed disclosures about how the company detects and prevents romance fraud on its platforms, noting that such scams cost U.S. victims more than US$1.3 billion in recent years.

Match Group’s new initiative builds on earlier campaigns from the company, including its 2023 global awareness effort to alert daters to the evolving nature of romance and crypto-related scams.
