Mattr Launches £177K Crowdfunding Campaign to Expand
Emerging dating platform Mattr has launched a crowdfunding campaign to support its expansion across the UK, aiming to create a more inclusive and meaningful dating experience. The app, which prioritizes mindfulness, diversity, and mental health, is looking to grow beyond London and form nationwide brand partnerships. As of writing, this campaign has reached over £177,000, roughly 78% of its target.
Mattr’s approach responds to growing dissatisfaction with mainstream dating apps. According to a survey of 1,200 users, only 6% feel current dating platforms represent them accurately, and 61% believe they fail to reflect their identities. Frustration with digital matchmaking is particularly high among neurodivergent users, with 94% reporting they feel misunderstood.
Founder Jamie Johnston emphasized the need for change, stating: “If you’ve ever felt like mainstream dating apps don’t work for you—this is your chance to change that. We’re creating a future where dating is tailored, intentional, and built by the people who use it.”
Since its launch, Mattr has facilitated over 40,000 conversations, fostering connections in a space designed to be safe and welcoming – something that has become increasingly desirable and highly successful in the more modern dating space. Queer dating app HER has reached 15 million users in 115 countries, while Match Group has introduced targeted platforms like Archer for gay men and BLK for Black singles. Apps like Happn and Feeld also continue to grow, catering to users seeking more personalized experiences.
