Meta Partners with Arsenal Football Club via Whatsapp, Facebook
Meta has formed a new partnership with Arsenal Football Club aimed at connecting fans more closely with the team through group chat features and exclusive content.
The collaboration was launched with the premiere of a documentary titled “It’s Official,” which explores the experiences of being an Arsenal supporter. The film is available on Arsenal’s channels as well as WhatsApp and Facebook-owned platforms, including YouTube and Instagram. According to Arsenal, the documentary highlights key moments for fans, from pre-match anticipation to post-game celebrations and ongoing conversations that take place in WhatsApp groups and Facebook communities.
As part of the partnership, Arsenal fans will gain access to unique digital experiences through the official WhatsApp Channel and Facebook page. These include special content and opportunities to get closer to the team. The deal also features in-person activations at London’s Emirates Stadium and chances for fans to attend future matches. A Facebook community hub is also being released, allowing fans to meet ahead of matches or get official news directly via the group.
For WhatsApp’s parent company Meta, the collaboration with a major football club like Arsenal provides an opportunity to leverage the app’s large global user base for deeper fan engagement. Sports partnerships of this kind could help increase active usage and open avenues for future brand collaborations within the platform. Specific financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but this is expected to be one of several sports-related initiatives for WhatsApp as the platform continues to emphasize real-time group interaction.
