Meta Tests New Limits on Facebook Link Posts for Business Accounts
Meta is testing a significant change to how business Pages and professional profiles share links on Facebook, raising concerns among publishers and marketers who rely on organic traffic from the platform. As part of a limited experiment, some users are being notified that they will soon face monthly limits on link posts unless they subscribe to Meta Verified.
According to screenshots shared publicly by social media consultant Matt Navarra, affected accounts are being told they will be restricted to just two organic link posts per month. The notification states: “Starting December 16, certain Facebook profiles without Meta Verified, including yours, will be limited to sharing links in 2 organic posts per month. Subscribe to Meta Verified to share more links on Facebook, plus get a verified badge and additional benefits to help protect your brand.”
Meta has confirmed that the change is currently a small-scale test. Navarra reported that the company described the experiment as an effort “to understand whether the ability to publish an increased volume of posts with links adds additional value for Meta Verified subscribers.” At this stage, Meta has said the test does not include publisher Pages, though the restriction could still affect a wide range of businesses and creators if expanded. From Meta’s perspective, limiting link posts may pose relatively little risk to engagement.
The move appears closely tied to Meta’s broader push to grow Meta Verified subscriptions, which range from $14.99 to $499 per month for business users depending on features and scale. While Meta does not break out subscriber numbers publicly, its “Other” revenue category – which includes subscriptions – reached $690 million in the company’s most recent quarterly earnings, more than double the level reported shortly after Meta Verified launched in 2023.
