Mylo Introduces AI “Wingman” to Tackle Dating App Fatigue

Israeli startup Mylo is taking a novel approach to online dating with its AI-powered matchmaking assistant. Designed to combat issues like swiping fatigue and superficial interactions, Mylo acts as an “AI wingman,” introducing users in a three-way group chat before stepping aside once a connection is made.

This comes ahead of both Bumble’s proposed wingman project and Grindr’s efforts to introduce a similar system of their own, both of which are still yet to see the light of day. Milo’s smaller scope may have made the AI’s production much easier – aided by the fact that the AI continuously learns from user interactions.

The app uses a “vibe-meter” system, where users provide feedback on their interactions. Before revealing additional images, Mylo facilitates an initial dialogue through five multiple-choice questions, guiding the conversation in directions that might keep both users invested. If both participants feel a connection, the AI exits the chat, leaving them to continue the conversation organically.

Zidkia points out that traditional apps see low engagement rates, with men typically swiping through 100 profiles to secure a match, and only 15% of matches leading to conversations. Mylo claims to dramatically improve these odds, allegedly reducing the number of profiles needed to 10 and increasing conversation rates to 90%.

Launched a few months ago in Israel, Mylo has already attracted tens of thousands of users, including a surprising 30% over the age of 45. While the company has plans to expand globally, nothing concrete has been mentioned yet, likely because of how recent Mylo’s release was – time will tell if the AI wingman proves to be a massive success both locally and internationally.
