Penn Graduate Reveals Photo-Analysis Dating App Quickmeets

Louis Chung, a 2024 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, has launched the waitlist for AI-based dating and social discovery app called Quickmeets, currently being piloted across several U.S. universities. Chung returned to Penn recently to promote the app on campus, aiming to raise awareness and gather user feedback from students.

Quickmeets uses artificial intelligence to match users based on images they upload representing their ideal type – whether that’s a celebrity, themselves, or simply someone they find visually appealing. The app’s focus on “matching based on visuals,” according to Chung, allows for both platonic and romantic matches. This approach, he believes, offers a more intuitive way to connect people than the often generic filters used by traditional dating platforms.

Chung says the app is already seeing strong user engagement, with retention metrics three to four times higher than typical dating apps. He attributes this to the app’s more personalized and visually driven algorithm, stating, “We want to be as accurate as a real human matchmaker or a friend.”

Quickmeets is currently available at universities including Penn, Drexel, Temple, Villanova, UCLA, USC, and Texas A&M. The pilot rollout is designed to test the app across a range of student demographics and geographies, but the platform will presumably become more widely-accessible if it sees overall success in this testing phase.

The University of Pennsylvania has seen a major upswing in AI-driven innovation projects recently, with Quickmeets being just one of many to see the light of day. If this image-analysis AI system functions well, it could become a major technology for many other dating apps going forward.
