QuackQuack: Modern Indian Online Dating Mixes With Tradition

A new privately-released survey by QuackQuack, India’s fastest-growing dating app, reveals how daters in Tier 2 and 3 cities are embracing online dating while maintaining traditional values. The study analyzed responses from 11,678 active users aged 18 to 35 across various professions, highlighting unique dating patterns distinct from those in metropolitan area.

While quick connections have become common in larger cities, smaller-town daters prefer a more gradual approach. According to the survey, 38% of respondents continue conversations on dating apps for over a month before considering an in-person meeting. Tradition still plays a role in dating attitudes, but the rush to marry has declined. Two in five men over 27 expressed interest in serious relationships, while three in five women over 25 primarily seek meaningful friendships.

A growing number of women (4,387 surveyed) actively connect with users from metropolitan areas, often to prepare for an upcoming relocation. Friends also play a key role in matchmaking in Tier 3 cities, helping set up profiles and suggest potential matches. Attitudes towards dating apps have also changed from being a “wedding shortcut”, with users generally taking a slower approach to how they date online rather than simply using it as a quick way to find a suitable partner.

Additionally, nearly 19% of daters, mostly men, reported that their families are aware of their dating life, with family opinions significantly influencing relationship decisions. Notably, most users who have told their families are actively looking for long-term relationships, and the family’s opinions are given a lot of weight in their decision-making during the dating process.
