Hinge Introduces Match Note Feature To Clarify Key Profile Details

Hinge has launched Match Note, a new feature designed to help users share key personal details with their matches before starting a conversation. The feature aims to improve compatibility and foster more meaningful connections, particularly for underrepresented groups such as LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent daters.

The feature was developed in collaboration with organizations like TransTech Social Enterprises and Disability:IN, after Hinge received feedback that many users wanted a way to share important personal aspects without including them on their profile or repeatedly bringing them up in every conversation.

Match notes are essentially additional profile notes that allow users to highlight highlight aspects such as gender identity, communication styles, family plans, and sobriety. For example, LGBTQIA+ users used it to clarify compatibility preferences, while neurodivergent individuals shared how they communicate to minimize misunderstandings.

The feature is optional, with users able to add a Match Note of up to 255 characters. Once two users match, the Match Note appears before a conversation begins, and the recipient must acknowledge it before messaging or choose to unmatch. This ensures that important details are shared privately with two matched users, rather than being displayed publicly on the user’s profile.

“Hinge aims to empower all daters to express themselves authentically, so creating an inclusive environment for people of all backgrounds and identities is incredibly important to us,” said Jackie Jantos, Chief Marketing Officer at Hinge. “Match Note serves an important role for people from underrepresented groups while giving all daters on Hinge a new way to connect more intentionally with each other.”
