Europe’s Online Dating Market Forecast to Reach $1.63 Billion by 2031

Europe’s online dating services market is projected to grow from $1.22 billion in 2026 to $1.63 billion by 2031, according to a new ResearchAndMarkets report, as mobile usage, paid services, artificial intelligence and niche platforms continue to shape the sector.

The report estimates the market was worth $1.15 billion in 2025 and forecasts a compound annual growth rate of 5.99% through 2031. Younger users are expected to remain an important source of growth, with dating increasingly integrated into broader digital social activity.

Mobile applications accounted for 71.15% of market revenue in 2025 and are forecast to grow at an annual rate of 7.88% through 2031. Location-based discovery, camera-enabled features, push notifications and mobile payments are among the factors supporting app-based dating.

Paid services represented 60.72% of market revenue in 2025, with subscription features including enhanced visibility, AI-powered recommendations and video functionality contributing to monetisation. The report expects paid dating services to grow at a faster rate than the overall market, although conversion from free users remains relatively low.

Artificial intelligence is becoming another area of investment. Dating companies are using AI for recommendation systems, profile improvements, onboarding and messaging assistance, while also exploring its role in identity verification and fraud prevention. Match Group and Bumble are among the companies highlighted for deploying AI-based tools.

However, the report identifies privacy and security as significant challenges for European dating platforms. Regulatory action against companies including Grindr and Nirvam, alongside scrutiny of consent and data practices under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), is increasing pressure on operators to limit data collection and strengthen security.

The market is also becoming more fragmented, with specialised platforms serving particular communities alongside larger general-purpose services. The report points to continued demand for niche dating products as well as services aimed at younger users.
