Sister Wives Survey Finds Divorce Parties Surging in Popularity

Interest in divorce parties has reached a five-year high, according to new data released by the matchmaking and dating app Sister Wives. Searches for “divorce party ideas” are at their peak in the past 12 months, with Pinterest reporting 39,000 recent searches and Google showing a 60% increase in queries for decorations over the past 90 days. The trend is expected to grow nearly 1.5 times by the end of July 2026.

The trend is heavily driven by women. Data shows women account for 88% of Pinterest searches related to divorce parties, with the 25-34 age group being the most active. While some men have hosted divorce celebrations, the phenomenon remains far more prevalent among women, who appear to be using these events as “rebirth or reclaiming rituals.” Many of them gain traction on platforms like TikTok, naturally spreading the idea further due to how easily some of the bizarre ideas – like a clown-themed dress code – can spread through users’ feeds.

Sister Wives relationship expert Robyn Alesich noted that these parties represent a shift in how people, particularly women, are choosing to process the end of a marriage – moving from stigma toward celebration and new beginnings. Naturally, in niches such as Sister Wives’, this can also lead to an influx of new users seeking something new or finding relationships that fit them better than their previous marraige, which may lead to a number platforms gaining increases new users during this peak.

The spike appears to be driven by two main factors. Many divorces initiated during “divorce month” peaks in January and September are now finalizing, creating a wave of people looking to mark the occasion. At the same time, summer’s longer days and increased sunlight are contributing to a psychological shift that makes major life transitions feel more manageable.
