SPARK Drops Dating App Model for Real-World Social Network

SPARK is moving away from dating and will rebrand as a real-world social network. The platform will focus on bringing people together without defining the connection beforehand. “I don’t believe the world needs another version of the same dating app. I believe we need more reasons to get out and meet each other,” said SPARK Founder and CEO Sunny Khurana.

Members will be able to choose a venue, create their own plan, and see who wants to join. They decide who comes along. Users can also browse other people’s plans and request to join. SPARK is working on a travel feature that would let users book a venue in another city before they arrive and find a small group to meet there.

SPARK generated 1,400 bookings in Thailand over the past 12 months. The company has been adding venue and activity partners and plans to bring new experiences to New Zealand. Khurana said the shift follows a year of testing and changing the original model.
