Survey Finds Workplace Dating App Use Is Commonplace

A recent survey from the dating app Hily reveals that the workplace has emerged as the second-most popular spot for users to swipe – behind only their homes. According to the findings, 92% of millennials and 74% of Gen Z respondents admitted to using dating apps during work hours. In many cases, swipes happen during lunch breaks, while a small share even admitted to browsing through virtual meetings.

The survey, which polled some 1,700 Gen Z and millennial Americans, dives into the how and when of modern dating-app behaviour. Besides the workplace, the data show that people are swiping “on the go” – from vacation spots to everyday commutes – confirming that dating is no longer confined to weekends or nightlife, but integrated into everyday routines.

This trend speaks to broader shifts in how younger adults approach both relationships and time management. For many, dating apps are no longer a weekend hobby — they’ve become woven into daily life. As one observer put it: dating has become “a part-time job between real jobs.”

But blending work and dating raises complications. Browsing while working can blur professional boundaries, including the risk of inadvertently encountering colleagues on the same app. Some companies have already faced challenges when office romances or swiping-related distractions have affected productivity or raised HR concerns/

Even so, this survey suggests that a significant portion of users base engages with their apps beyond traditional leisure times, which could potentially open up new niches for discreet and optimized-for-quick-swipe platforms that can be used for brief periods in non-private settings.
