Survey: Only 15% of Users Care For AI Features in Dating Apps
A recent Instabug survey reveals that the majority of dating app users are reluctant to embrace artificial intelligence in their chosen dating apps. Only around 15% of respondents expressed enthusiasm for AI-driven features, making dating the least AI-receptive category compared to social media, shopping, banking and entertainment. Despite the AI wave sweeping across industries, most users – nearly two-thirds (63.5%) – said AI capabilities wouldn’t influence their choice of dating app .
Security concerns are especially pressing: over half of participants highlighted privacy as a top issue, wary of data breaches and misuse. Nearly half (47%) prioritize data protection above all else, and 71% demand transparency around storage, usage, and past incidents. These concerns are more notable in apps with heavy AI usage – 44% doubt the precision and 39% question the morality of AI chatbots and other AI systems.
These findings echo a Boston University–Ipsos survey that found significant gender differences in feelings towards AI – only 10% of women believe AI-enabled platforms improve relationships, compared to 20% of men. Still, a notable minority (36.5%) said they’d consider switching to an app featuring AI. Many users are willing to share personal data if it results in meaningful perks – 32% want innovative features and 30% crave insights into their usage habits.
While AI is likely to make some big changes to the dating industry overall, a large portion of users are still not entirely sure if they want to trust it. Many feel that it wouldn’t be worth the potential risks, or simply wouldn’t be a useful addition to their experience – and if platforms want to adopt AI more readily, they may need to work hard to change that perception.
