Thursday App Hosts Offline Culver City Dating Mixer for Singles
Thursday is continuing its shift toward in-person dating events, bringing Los Angeles singles together for a mixer at a bookstore in Culver City.
The event format put greater emphasis on creating physical spaces where singles can meet. The Culver City mixer was not positioned as a formal matchmaking session, and there were no guarantees of a successful match. Instead, the format centred on giving attendees an environment in which conversations could develop without a fixed schedule or assigned pairings.
The London-based company, founded in 2021, originally operated as a dating app that was available only on Thursdays. Its model was designed to encourage users to make connections and move quickly from online interaction to meeting in person. Thursday has since expanded its events programme to cities around the world, with Los Angeles among its destinations. The company now organises events in around 150 cities globally.
The Culver City event took a less structured approach than traditional speed dating. Rather than assigning participants to a series of timed conversations, attendees were able to move around the bookstore and decide for themselves who to approach.
Participants wore coloured stickers indicating whether they were interested in meeting men, women or both, providing a simple way to identify potential matches in the room.
The format created a busy, informal atmosphere, with attendees circulating between groups and approaching one another throughout the evening. Some participants used the bookstore setting itself as a conversation starter, browsing the shelves or picking up books while deciding how to begin an interaction. Attendees reportedly travelled from communities including Irvine and Glendale to take part, a clear sign that users were willing to travel across the city for an opportunity to meet people face to face.
While this is just one of many real-life dating events that has been hosted recently, it’s another sign that there is a subset of users that are eager for this face-to-face matching experience.
