TikTok Introduces “Bulletin Board,” Messaging Tool for Creators

TikTok is rolling out a new communication feature called “bulletin board”, giving creators and businesses a dedicated channel for sending one-to-many updates directly to followers. The tool functions much like Instagram’s broadcast channels, which launched in early 2023, signaling TikTok’s continued move toward creator-driven messaging spaces that sit between public posts and private DMs.

Bulletin boards allow creators to publish text, images, and videos, while followers can only react with emojis. Unlike typical TikTok content, posts sent through a bulletin board appear directly in a follower’s inbox, making them a more controlled – and potentially more impactful – distribution method for announcements, exclusive content, or promotional updates.

The feature is initially restricted to users aged 18 and over who have at least 50,000 followers, aligning with TikTok’s broader strategy of reserving advanced communication tools for established creators. The company says this format is intended to help creators “build community” through more consistent and direct updates than what Stories or traditional videos can provide.

TikTok had been testing bulletin boards since June, and several publishers and artists participated in the beta. Musicians reportedly used the tool to share new releases and drive pre-saves, while media outlets like People magazine and sports organizations like Paris Saint-Germain distributed news updates. The early use cases mirror how Instagram’s broadcast channels quickly became hubs for exclusive drops, behind-the-scenes content, and fan engagement.

To launch a bulletin board, creators can navigate to their inbox and select the new option. Boards can be displayed on profile pages or kept hidden, and creators can name their boards however they choose. Followers can opt in by tapping a bulletin board’s name on a creator’s profile, after which they’ll receive notifications each time new content is posted.

TikTok says all bulletin board content is subject to its existing Community Guidelines and moderation systems, noting that users can mute, block, or report content within the feature.
