TikTok Pushes to Prioritize Relevance in AI Campaigns

A new report from Warc in partnership with TikTok examines how generative AI is reshaping creative workflows in marketing and what brands need to do to maintain effectiveness. The study, based on feedback from 400 marketers across the UK, US, Australia, and Brazil, emphasizes that cultural relevance, rather than sheer output volume, drives success in today’s content environment.

TikTok Global Head of Creative and Brand Ads Andy Yang noted that leading brands focus on rapid learning from their audiences. “The brands winning today are not the ones generating the most content,” Yang said. “They are the ones learning fastest from the people they serve.” He described this capability as “cultural intelligence” — the ability to identify emerging community values and respond with content that feels native to the platform.

The report acknowledges that AI tools have increased pressure on marketers to produce more assets. Most respondents view AI as useful for expanding workflows and generating ideas quickly, and many consider it a core part of the creative process. However, its value is notably lower for copywriting and scripting tasks, indicating limitations in fully replicating human creative judgment.

Concerns about AI’s lack of originality emerged as a key weakness. To address this, marketers identified the need for stronger cultural insights to enhance the relevance of AI-generated outputs. The study points to platforms like TikTok as valuable sources for real-time trend data that can inform creative decisions.

By combining platform-specific cultural signals with AI tools, marketers can refine creative briefs and improve alignment with audience preferences. This approach helps produce content that resonates more effectively and supports better campaign performance.

The findings suggest a hybrid model where AI handles volume and initial ideation, while human oversight and cultural context ensure authenticity and relevance. The report provides detailed breakdowns of these elements, offering practical guidance for integrating data signals into creative strategies.
