Use of AI in Online Dating Surges 300% According to New Match Report

The use of artificial intelligence in online dating has sharply increased, with Match’s latest Singles in America study reporting a 333% rise in AI usage among U.S. singles over the past year. According to the findings, 26% of singles are now integrating AI tools into their dating experience – a trend driven especially by younger generations.

Nearly half of Gen Z singles have used AI for tasks such as enhancing their profiles, generating messages, or screening potential matches. Among all singles surveyed, 44% expressed interest in using AI to help filter matches, while 40% wanted assistance in building better profiles. However, attitudes toward AI’s role in dating remain divided: a substantial share of respondents consider it a dealbreaker to use AI for photo manipulation (44%) or conversation generation (36%).

Beyond practical applications, some singles are also forming deeper relationships with AI itself. The report found that 16% of respondents have interacted romantically with AI, a figure that climbs to one-third among Gen Z. This coincides with broader cultural shifts, as increasing numbers of younger users report feeling understood by AI companions.

Despite these developments, belief in traditional romantic ideals remains strong. More than 70% of singles believe in destiny and long-term love, with a notable jump in belief in “love at first sight” since 2014.

Still, many singles report a disconnect between these ideals and reality, often looking to social media for relationship inspiration. According to researchers, this gap may be driving both the embrace of AI and growing anxiety around real-world dating expectations – something that might only be solvable if platforms can embrace AI tools in a direct, controlled, and predictable way that removes the uncertainty from the equation.
