Tinder Launches Group Hangouts for Low-Pressure Dating With Friends

Tinder has launched Group Hangouts, a new group-matching feature designed for friends who want to meet other groups in person. Groups appear in Tinder’s Discovery tab, where they can connect and make plans to go out together. A Group Hangout can include up to 15 people.

The group appears as one profile in Tinder’s Discovery tab. Members can browse other groups and Like the ones they want to meet. If both groups like each other, Tinder opens a shared group chat so everyone can talk and arrange the outing.

Tinder previously introduced Double Date, which allows two friends to match with another pair. Group Hangouts expands that idea to larger groups and a wider range of social activities. The feature is rolling out in phases across the US and selected markets.

The group format fits how younger singles date. Tinder research found that 37% of Gen Z planned to go on a group or double date this year, while 63% of young daters prefer lower-pressure ways to meet people. Early Group Hangouts testing in Australia found that 40% of invitations were accepted. Women were 2.2 times more likely to like a group profile than a one-to-one profile. Tinder saw an even stronger response with Double Date, where women were nearly three times more likely to like a paired profile than a solo one.
