WhatsApp Is Testing A Revenue-Generating Business Chat

Status

WhatsApp is testing a new way to make money, according to a report in Reuters.

The messaging giant is apparently testing a chat function that would let businesses talk directly to consumers.

The initial test is said to be taking place alongside companies in the Y Combinator incubator, and is being conducted alongside user research.

The move comes after WhatsApp made a deal with the combinator in February that would enable WhatsApp to trial new features with companies in the incubator.

As the report says: “WhatsApp last year announced its plan to develop the system, known as an application programing interface, or API, citing examples such as a user talking to a bank about a fraudulent transaction or to an airline about a delayed flight.”
