Blued Receives Certificate For Data Privacy Commitment
LGBTQ social and dating app Blued has received a ‘TRUSTe Enterprise Privacy Certification’, recognising its compliance with major global privacy frameworks.
The award was presented by TrustArc, a leader in data privacy management and automation. It celebrates the companies that strictly adhere to data laws, such as European GDPR, Asia-Pacific’s APEC, and California’s CCPA.
Leo Zhao, Chief Risk Officer of BlueCity, said in a statement: “This certification is yet another demonstration of Blued’s unrelenting commitment to protecting user privacy.
“When individuals engage and act online, they do so with the expectation that their data will be guarded and handled with care. Blued goes to great lengths to do so, and we believe that it is essential to show our community that Blued is a safe and private space.”
Blued has added a number of safety features in recent times to help users keep their app activity private.
Screenshots and screen recordings were prohibited last month to protect all participants in video calls and livestreams. Attempted screenshots on iOS devices produce a blank image, while taking a screenshot is completely impossible on Android.
The ‘Private Album’ feature also ensures that faces do not appear in public thumbnails and that viewers can only access the album’s photos when given authorisation by the owner.
Blued launched its first online talent competition this week, to celebrate LGBTQ talent across Asia. Contestants were asked to upload videos of themselves to social media to be in with a chance of winning the $22,000 prize.
