GDI Pleased To Announce The Winners Of Our Spotlight On Startups Competition
Last night, GDI held its first ever Spotlight on Startups event and we are delighted to announce our two winners were ooOo and iGeolise.
It was a fantastic night at The Singer Tavern, as the best and brightest new dating startups pitched against each other, before getting grilled by our expert panellists and the audience casted their votes.
And although the results were very close – just a handful of votes in it – we are very pleased to announce that gamified dating app ooOo was crowned the early stage winner, and iGeolise won the growth stage.
Launched for iOS earlier this year by David Minns, the entrepreneur behind Platform Dating, ooOo is a gamified mobile dating product that works by showing you a grid of four potential matches, and asks you to choose one.
The app then continues to serve up more sets of potential matches based on your preferences, and if you pick someone who has also mutually liked you, you are both put in contact.
And despite strong competition from other early stage finalists HIMYNAMEIS, WeShake and Lili Fox, the judges warmed to the unique gamified concept, as well as its strong security features, and the audience agreed in the public vote.
In the growth stage category, location-based mapping company iGeolise, who make maps and data searchable by travel time rather than by distance, were crowned winners.
The London-based company has built a platform that any website or mobile app can easily link to, then their users can search that site or app by the travel time and transport mode of their choice.
The judges were excited by the possibilities their tech, which has been used by Zoopla, Countrywide and Jobsite, could have in the dating market, letting online daters quickly and easily find the best ways to meet up.
It was a very strong category, and we want to say a big thanks to other finalists LINKD, Antidate, CiaoDate and Mint.
Congratulations again to ooOo and iGeolise, thanks to all our attendees & sponsors, and we look forward to sharing photos and videos of the evening in the coming days!
