Hinge Releases Hidden Words Feature

Hinge has introduced a new feature which allows users to have more control over the words, phrases, and emojis that they may encounter on the dating platform. As “a first-of-its-kind tool among dating apps”, Hidden Words promises a more positive and customisable user experience.

With this new feature, each Hinge user will have their own Hidden Words list which they can customise with the content they want to avoid. This list can be updated with entries being removed or added whenever the user desires.

When a user receives a Like that contains one of the Hidden Words, the like will now appear in a Hidden Likes category. Users then have the option to view this hidden message if they wish, with the ability to match, skip, or report the profile that has sent the message.

When reporting another user, daters may be prompted to add to their Hidden Words list.

“At Hinge, we believe in creating an environment where everyone can feel safe and respected, which is integral to building genuine connections,” said Jeff Dunn, Hinge’s VP, Trust & Safety.

“With the launch of Hidden Words, we are living by our mission, to become the most trusted dating app. This feature is about giving daters the ability to define their boundaries, enhancing their confidence in the process”, he added.

“Our hope is that with Hidden Words, users will feel reassured they can explore potential connections in a way that’s most comfortable to them, leading to safer and more satisfying dating experiences”, Dunn shared.

The platform highlights that “meaningful connections can only happen when people feel safe”, pointing out that vulnerable minority groups have been on the receiving end of an increasing amount of abuse across the internet.
