Meta Announces Unified Account System Across All Meta Apps

Meta has announced a major update to its account infrastructure with the introduction of a unified Meta Account system. The new system aims to simplify how users sign in and manage their various accounts across Meta’s expanding ecosystem, which includes Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, Meta Horizon, and even Meta AI glasses.

Currently, many users maintain separate logins and settings across Meta’s platforms, making management cumbersome. The existing Accounts Center already provides some consolidation, but the new Meta Account takes this further by allowing users to use a single password across all connected services. Users will also have the option to secure their accounts with Passkeys, using biometric authentication such as fingerprints or face recognition, along with device passwords.

According to Meta, the Meta Account will centralize key settings, including passwords, two-factor authentication, and associated email addresses. These universal settings will only need to be updated once, rather than individually in each app. App-specific preferences, such as post visibility on Facebook or tagging permissions on Instagram, will continue to be managed within their respective apps.

The update is also designed to improve parental supervision. Through the Family Center in Meta Account, parents will be able to manage safety and privacy settings for their teens across Instagram, Facebook, Messenger, and Meta Horizon from one central dashboard, eliminating the need to switch between multiple apps.

Importantly, the new system is optional and flexible. Users are not required to link all their accounts together and can choose to keep certain logins separate. They will also retain the ability to add or remove accounts from their Meta Account at any time.

The rollout of the improved Meta Account system will take place gradually over the next year. Meta states that the changes are intended to reduce friction for users while maintaining personalization and control over individual app experiences.
