New Tinder Campaign Promotes Scam Safety Features

Tinder has partnered with Love Island star and snake wrangler Rob Rausch for a playful yet serious campaign to raise awareness of romance scams. This initiative, launched on World Romance Scam Prevention Day (October 3rd), aims to educate online daters on how to identify scammers, with Rausch using his snake-wrangling expertise as a metaphor for spotting “slithery” behaviors. The campaign, developed by Tinder and creative agency Movers+Shakers, will run across TikTok and Instagram.

Romance scams, which caused over $1.14 billion in losses in the U.S. last year, are a growing concern. To combat this, Tinder has introduced over 20 safety features, including profile verification and machine learning to detect suspicious activity. The platform’s “blue checkmark” ID Verification will be available to all U.S. users by the end of October, offering additional protection.

The campaign emphasizes avoiding common scam tactics, such as rushing conversations off-platform, love bombing, avoiding in-person meetings, and asking for money. Tinder users will also receive in-app reminders to stay vigilant and report suspicious behavior.

While the campaign is lighthearted, Tinder’s Senior VP of Global Marketing, Stephanie Danzi, notes that the goal is to draw attention to the serious issue of online romance scams and promote greater awareness of the platform’s robust safety features.
