ODA to Host Webinar on Keeping Dating Data Fit For Purpose

The Online Dating Association (ODA) is hosting an online webinar, looking at how to keep dating data fit for purpose. The event is taking place on Wednesday, 24 February 2021 at 4pm (GMT).

Privacy and data protection laws exist in every jurisdiction and getting it right when it comes to user data matters hugely. Services need to give thought to the amount of data the take from users, the purposes it can be used for, its security and how it can be disclosed or deleted.

The California Consumer Privacy Law has been in effect for a year and its provisions are mirrored largely in the New York Privacy Act. Both, in turn, take much from the EU General Data protection Regulations implemented in mid-2018.

The issues with data and how to get it right were raised with the ODA by a number of businesses as something to revisit with experts.

The webinar will host discussions on data and privacy, looking at:

– how data is collected
– the ways in which users may be asked to consent to its retention and use
– proper and improper uses
– policy on retaining data after users leave a service and
– policy on how to manage a user request to have profiles deleted and data on them erased

This webinar is the first webinar since the Match Group became fully fledged members of the ODA. The move to full membership signals a continued international expansion for the ODA, which has up until now largely focused on building user trust and confidence within the UK market. Match.com was a founder member of the ODA in 2014.
