Over 1m Businesses Now Advertise On Instagram

Instagram
Over 1m businesses are using Instagram to advertise their products, as the photo-sharing platform unveils plans to expand its range of services for brands.

In a recent blog post, Instagram revealed it now has an incredible 600m users around the world, and 8m of these are business accounts, the majority small businesses.

Instagram also reports that there are 1m active advertisers using the app and 80% of Instagrammers follow a business account on the app.

In comparison, last September parent company Facebook revealed it had 4m monthly active advertisers.

And in the last month alone, more than 120m Instagram users went on a website, called, emailed, direct messaged or received directions to find out more about a business.

Instagram’s VP of Business James Quarles said: “These are big milestones for us, important milestones for us. It’s put us in pretty rare company for an advertising business like ours.

“We certainty aspire to have all of those businesses on Instagram. We see it as potential head room for us, but there’s lots of use cases where people are just on Instagram.”

In 2017, Instagram says it is planning to help its users better connect with businesses and is expected to offer more insight into stories, multi-post images and saved posts.

These features are all with a move to help businesses “gain perspective on its followers”.
