Tinder Rolls Out New User Warnings for In-App Behaviour

Dating app Tinder has introduced new user warnings to promote good in-app behaviour. Users who are reported for breaching the community guidelines will now receive a message from Tinder in their inbox which warns them that repeated violations will result in a ban.

These new warnings are classified into three areas: authenticity, respectfulness, and inclusiveness.

Tinder already deploys warning systems with the ‘Does This Bother You’ and ‘Are You Sure’ features which pop-up when potentially harmful communications are sent / received. This recent update goes one step further.

Warnings will now also be sent to users in-app inbox, which will be a visible message that cannot be deleted. The dating app detects breaches of its Community Guidelines using real-time machine-learning, advanced technology, and human verification, it shared.

“Globally, online dating is now the most common way for singles to meet new people, with 53% of people under 30 using dating apps1. As the leading dating app, we want to provide our users with the best experience and the best opportunity to discover new authentic connections in a safe, fun, and respectful environment. This is particularly important for younger users who are new to online dating”, shared Nicole Blumenfeld, VP of Trust & Safety Operations, at Tinder.

“Our Community Guidelines form the basis of a respectful ecosystem. These warnings are designed to provide transparency and alert users when they are not engaging in acceptable and respectful behaviour. By providing greater transparency to users about their behaviour, not only are we enabling them to immediately ‘course correct’ but also foster a better experience for the wider Tinder community”, she added.

This new warning system is currently being rolled out, and is expected to be live globally in the coming weeks.
