AllPaws.com uses online dating-style interface, search tools and functionality to help match up owners with pets, rather than partners.
Released by start-up company DCL Ventures Inc., the site aims to use modern technology and social media to help animals in rescues and shelters find good homes.
It has been founded by Darrell Lerner, who has experience in the online dating industry, being co-founder of SNAP Interactive Inc., which created the Facebook dating app AYI.com (“Are You Interested”).
The app was ranked 36th Fastest Growing Company in North America in Deloitte’s 2012 Technology Fast 500 list.
Lerner, Founder and President of AllPaws, said: “I am so excited about the chance to combine my passion for startups with my love for animals.
“I have gained so much knowledge related to matching and connecting people from my years in the online dating space and we’re essentially re-creating that same exact experience again with AllPaws.com to better connect available pets with new owners.”
The site will launch with more than 100,000 pets online, hoping to add 2,000 new animals every day from launch.
Users can use targeted searches to find their perfect pet, which range from dogs and cats to guinea pigs, rabbits and even llamas.
AllPaws is expected to be launched in October 2013.
