BLK Launches #ItsGivingSZN Initiative to Promote Sustainability
BLK, a dating app designed for Black singles, has introduced the #ItsGivingSZN initiative that encourages users to donate hoodies from ex-partners to support sustainability and global communities. Partnering with nonprofit organization Planet Aid, the campaign aims to reduce textile waste while benefiting underprivileged groups worldwide.
Timed to coincide with National Breakup Day on December 11, the initiative offers singles a way to repurpose old clothing from former partners. Donations can be made through BLK’s designated in-person drop-off bins or its online donation portal. In return, participants will receive a new BLK-branded hoodie as a token of appreciation.
Jonathan Kirkland, BLK’s head of brand and marketing, stated that the entire purpose of the initiative was straightforward but impactful – “Together, we’re turning something as simple as an old hoodie into a powerful act of giving”. Planet Aid’s mission ensures that all donated items are reused responsibly, and every hoodie will be used to support those in need.
Fred Olsson, Planet Aid’s president and CEO, lauded the campaign as an example of how small acts of generosity can drive significant change. This creative campaign offers users a meaningful way to declutter while contributing to environmental conservation, and provides a novel way to get rid of old hoodies from exes – and given how common the idea of “stealing your partner’s hoodie” is, many people will have at least one lingering around that gives them bad memories.
