Breeze: British Singles Among the Most Flexible Daters
British daters are emerging as some of the least selective in the world on at least one traditional choice criterion, according to recent analysis from dating app Breeze. The company’s Dating Report 2025, which examined millions of matches and real-life dates across the UK, Europe and the United States, suggests that singles in the UK are comparatively relaxed about height preferences and broader match filters.
One of the standout findings is that only about 32 % of UK users choose to apply a height filter when browsing potential matches. This contrasts with markets such as the Netherlands, where nearly 39 % of users make height a specific criterion in their dating preferences – the highest among the markets analysed. British daters also tend to maintain broader tolerance in height ranges; around half of UK users are comfortable with a height difference exceeding 40 cm.
Researchers behind the report interpret these patterns as indicative of a more open-minded approach to online dating in the UK. Rather than narrowing searches through stringent filters, many British users appear willing to prioritise other factors such as personality, lifestyle and compatibility when considering matches. This trend aligns with broader discussions in the industry about reducing reliance on superficial criteria and encouraging more substantive connections.
The report also points to behaviour around dating logistics. UK users are prepared to travel considerable distances for first dates – with examples of journeys exceeding 400 km logged – and tend to take longer between matching and meeting in person than users in some other markets. On average, British Breeze members wait nearly 12 days between initial match and first date, compared with a faster pace observed in cities like New York, where a majority meet within a week.
In terms of timing and activity patterns, Sunday was the most common day for matches in the UK, while Tuesday emerged as a popular day for first dates. These behavioural insights reflect both cultural rhythms and how dating patterns vary regionally within global dating app contexts.
