Bumble Partners with Filipinos Sexual Therapy App
Bumble has partnered with Unprude, a sexual therapy app in the Philippines, to promote sexual health and open communication among Filipino women. This collaboration, timed with Sexual Health Awareness Month and the country’s first sexual wellness summit by Unprude, reflects a broader cultural shift in the Philippines, where traditional values have long made discussions about sex and intimacy taboo.
As attitudes evolve, more Filipinos are embracing open conversations about sexuality and relationships. Bumble’s data reveals that 42% of people are approaching sex and intimacy in a more exploratory and open way, and over half believe it’s crucial to discuss sexual wants early in a relationship. Given that Philippines is a predominately Christian county, these topics have been avoided for many years, especially by women who were told that it was “unladylike”.
According to Bumble’s figures, 78% of their female users believe understanding both emotional and physical intimacy is essential in relationships. Their studies on Filipino markets also found that that 84% of Filipinos value sexual compatibility in their partnerships, and 55% would address any issues openly with their partner.
Unprude’s founder and certified Sexologist, Dr. Rica Cruz, makes it clear that a change in approach to sexual topics is important. Unprude wants to help Filipinos get used to exploring sexual desires while still “setting boundaries, respecting and being curious about each other’s wishes, and having honest conversations”. More importantly, the platform will also push for their users to “prioritize safety, consent, and open communication” as a whole.
