Chapter 2 Creator Prepares to Launch Sober Dating App

Nicky Wake, the figurehead behind the Chapter 2 dating and friendship app for widows and widowers, is now turning her focus to sober singles. Drawing on her personal experiences with alcohol and the challenges of dating while sober, Wake is launching Sober Dating, a platform aimed at fostering connections for individuals who choose not to drink.

According to DrinkAware, binge drinking in the UK is at its lowest recorded levels, with just 11% of adults reporting excessive drinking weekly. Meanwhile, younger generations are increasingly choosing a teetotal lifestyle, with one in four 18-24-year-olds abstaining from alcohol entirely. The app is planned to launch as soon as February 14th of this year, and aims to capitalise on the increasing amount of sober users who want similarly-sober partners.

Wake was motivated to create the new platform after losing her husband in the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to a four-year-long struggle with alcoholism. After getting rehabilitation and overcoming her fears about dating while fully sober, she decided to plan Sober Dating as a similar friendship-and-relationship app to Chapter 2.

The app is currently only available in pre-registration, with the planned launch date being Valentine’s Day. While a handful of sober dating apps already exist, it’s still a relatively untapped market, and Wake’s Sober Dating could end up being a standout choice within the niche.
