Date Like Goblins Targets Introverted Gamer Dating Niche

The newly-developed dating platform Date Like Goblins is set to launch this fall, creating a dating experienced based around gaming as a hobby and shared activity. Designed primarily for gamers – particularly those who are introverted, neurodivergent, or on the autism spectrum – the platform allows users to connect via voice chat while playing video games, eliminating the pressures of traditional dating.

Founder Lise Keeney, a former Hinge publicist and avid gamer, developed Date Like Goblins after struggling with conventional dating apps – creating a platform that’s more suitable for people who might be lacking in confidence or struggle with normal dating methods.

Unlike mainstream dating apps that rely on swiping and complex algorithms, Date Like Goblins features a straightforward search system where users can filter potential matches by age, gender, and preferred games. Once a match is found, users can schedule a gaming session through a Calendly-style invitation system, entering their Discord username to chat and play together. While Discord is currently the only communication method, the platform is considering an in-app voice feature in the future.

The platform also introduces a unique profile system with three different visibility modes: Normal (Human), which includes profile photos; Goblin Mode, which hides all images; and Halfling Mode, which reveals profile pictures only after interest is expressed. While this approach prioritizes personality over appearance, concerns remain about potential misuse and identity verification.

The platform’s Kickstarter campaign, launched to provide early access and discounted memberships, is ongoing alongside a regular waitlist option. Backers will get access to the platform in September, with November being the scheduled public release.
