Hanna Kozlowska’s New Book U Up?: An Intimate History of Online Dating Now Available for Pre-Order
Longtime dating industry reporter Hanna Kozlowska has announced her new book, U Up?: An Intimate History of Online Dating, due for release on January 26, 2027. The book explores how people have searched for love over the years, from Victorian personal ads to today’s dating apps.
Hana Kozlowska traces matchmaking from computer dating in the 1960s to early online chatrooms, OkCupid and niche platforms such as Shaadi.com, FarmersOnly and Feeld. She also looks at newer developments, including virtual reality dating and AI companions.
Drawing on interviews with dozens of daters around the world, the book examines how technology has changed relationships and why frustration with dating apps has grown. It also explores the similarities between 19th-century matrimonial advertisements and modern Tinder profiles.
Kozlowska previously discussed the book with Mark Brooks during an LTR interview in 2025. She spoke about her research into early computer dating, the challenges of covering such a broad subject, and the surprising similarities between dating practices across different generations.
Kozlowska previously worked at Quartz, The New York Times and Foreign Policy. Her reporting has also appeared in The Guardian, Vox and New York magazine.
