Bindr Surpasses 500,000 Members as Founders Move Into Investing
Bindr, a US-based dating app for the LGBTQ+ community, has surpassed 500,000 members and 600,000 downloads. The app is adding around 20,000 new members each month. Approximately 80% of its users are based in the US and Canada.
Bindr was founded by Mary Richardson and Brandon Teller. The platform welcomes users across the LGBTQ+ spectrum, with women accounting for 50% of members, men 30%, and trans, non-binary and other gender identities making up the remaining 20%. Forbes has previously named Bindr the best dating app for bisexual people.
Much of Bindr’s growth has been driven by ColdStart, an AI-powered marketing platform also founded by Richardson and Teller. Originally developed to help Bindr attract users, ColdStart now operates as a separate business. It helps companies increase their visibility across search engines, social media and AI-generated answers.
Richardson and Teller have begun investing in early-stage startups, focusing on LGBTQ+ entrepreneurs, women-led businesses and companies based in Pennsylvania. They are supporting startup programmes that helped them build their own businesses, including AlphaLab, Penn State’s LaunchBox programmes and Startupfest in Montreal.
